Strain Of The Day - Kerala Krush

Image
Sativa 85 / Indica 15 Origins: South Indian x Original Skunk #1 Flowering: 63-77 days Harvest: mid November Kerala, the Southern tip of the Indian subcontinet, is famous for goddess-centered Hinduism, tropical forests, white beaches, and blasting cannabis highs. Kerala Krush is an extremely vigorous hybrid – the result of pure Keralan sativa crossed with the robust Skunk #1. This sativa hybrid offers a Zen high, good yields and reasonable maturation times. Kerala Krush can be grown indoors, or outdoors from 45 degrees latitude right down to the equator. A greenhouse is a great compromise for outdoor gardeners in temperate regions. Flying Dutchmen recommends growing this variety organically in soil, but all other growing methods are suitable. A slender plant of medium height, Kerala Krush has narrow leaflets and lonf petioles. indoors, best results are attained through pruning once or twice before flowering. Bending the lateral branches to 45 degrees reduces stretch...

Strain Of The Day - Diamond Head

Image
Hybrid Origins: Flow x atypical Flow Flowering: 55-60 days Harvest: early October Diamond Head is the name of the large volcano that glimmers like a jewel on Oahu’s emerald skyline. Held in “high esteem” by the locals, honored by the chiefs, and enjoyed by anyone with an appreciation for Mother Nature’s beauty, Diamond Head evokes the vision of what Sagarmatha believes to be her version of primo pakalolo. To make Diamond head, a mother Flow plant was crossed with an atypical Flow male that exhibited a Hawaiian phenotype. Diamond Head displays a mostly sativa growth pattern – slender serrated purple leaves and elongated purple buds plump with sticky crystalline trichomes. Everything about this plant is sativa except for the large, dense flower tops and spongy buds, which have a slight indica profile. Diamond head would love to grow on the tropical mountainsides of Hawaii, but any garden where plants can continue to ripen into mid or late October will suffice. For in...

Strain Of The Day - Ethiopian Highland

Image
Sativa Origins: Ethiopian Highland Flowering: 42 days Harvest: mid September African Seeds obtained the original seed stock for Ethipian Highland from the breeders in the Rasta community in Shashemene, a sprawling town located in the Great Rift Valley, about 150 miles from Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. The strain originated in the highland region of Southern Tanzania, and then was brought to Ethiopia where it was grown for many generations before reaching African Seeds breeders. This pure sativa strain has never been crossed, only inbred. Outdoors, Ethiopian thrives when grown in a location with a long warm summer, but it will also do well in the Northern European latitudes and cooler high altitude mountain climates. This plant can also be tamed for indoor gardens as long as the lighting is fairly intense. Ebb and flow hydro is a better choice of systems; this plant is difficult to grow in soil indoors. African Seeds typically allows this heavily branched, shorter...

Strain Of The Day - Rockstar

Image
Hybrid Origins: Rock Bud x Sensi Star Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: mid October The “Star” in Rockstar is the multi-award-winning Sensi Star, a potent indica with a slightly cerebral, sativa-influenced stone. This Star’s “Rock” is not music-related, but rather the Soma A+ mother, which is often called “Rockbud” for its super dense buds that offer no footholds for molds and pests. “Rockbud”‘s compact growth genes reign in Sensi’s sativa -like branching, making Rockstar easier to manicure than its papa plant. This Rockstar combo is a good strain for beginners and delivers buds with a rhythm that any indica fan will gladly groove to. Designed as an indoor variety, Rockstar also works well in a sunny outdoor environment that allows 9 weeks of flowering before frost sets in. Growers in California have reported up to one pound yield from 6-foot (2-meter) tall plants. Rockstar grows well indoors in a SOG setup whether in hydro or in soil but given the space, it will produce w...

Strain Of The Day - Chocolope

Image
95% Sativa / 5% Indica Genetics: OG Chocolate Thai x Cannalope Haze Flowering: 8-10 weeks Harvest: late October Yield: 500-600g/m2 THC: 18% Amsterdam-based DNA Genetics are amongst the forerunners in Holland’s ever flourishing cannabis industry, and their Chocolope is the result of an unholy union between OG Chocolate Thai female and Cannalope Haze male. Originally named D-Line, Chocolope is a sativa heavy hybrid and behaves exactly as you would expect her to. She likes to grow particularly tall, and is ridiculously easy to grow, making her best suited for outdoor gardens where you can give her the space she enjoys. Before being release to the public, this strain was backcrossed to get shorter flowering times, and now the plant has a flowering period of 8 to 10 weeks and yields around 50-60 grams per square foot. Don’t harvest before the the 12-week mark if you want to bring out the best of the chocolate flavor. As the flowering period progresses, you’ll no...

Ed Sheeran Sued for $100 Million

Image
Ed Sheeran, singer/songwriter, is being sued by Structured Asset Sales, a company that owns 1/3 of the copyright to "Lets Get It On' by Marvin Gaye. The company claims that Sheeran's song "thinking out loud" ripped off  Gayes track by mimicking the bassline, melody, and harmony. Sheeran denies the claims and says that the rhythmic components of his song are commonplace and unprotectable. "Thinking Out Loud" sold over 10 million copies and is certified diamond while "Lets Get It On" is platinum. What do you think?

Strain Of The Day - Americano

Image
Indica Genetics: Skunk x Northern Lights Flowering: 42-50 days Harvest: late September Americano is a strain that was designed specifically for the American buyers who came to Vancouver looking to purchase marijuana in bulk. Enterprise Seeds crossed two very well known North American strains, Skunk and Northern Lights, to make this full indica variety. Some of Americano’s traits that make it such a great choice for commercial grows are the density of its buds and a short flowering period. While it canbe grown both indoors and out, Americano does best in indoor hydroponic gardens. When using aggressive nutrient formulas, growers can harvest this plant after as little as 6 weeks of flowering. When smoking Americano, excpet a full indica stone that will make you feel heavy and may result in some couch lock. Flushing at the end of the flowering cycle will bring out a little more flavor, but generally, Americano has a somewhat subtle Skunk smell and taste. kindgr...

Strain Of The Day - Purple Cali Kush

Image
Indica 60 / Sativa 40 Origins: Granddaddy Purple x triple backcrossed OG Kush Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: mid October The Funxta’z Purple Cali Kush is an indica-dominant hybrid that blends a lanky OG Kush father with a mother Granddaddy Purple indica from the wine regions in northwestern California. The OG Kush is a triple inbred crox (IBX) of an inbred line (IBL) of Kush. It is a more sativa-dominant strain with an enviable kush high. The purple mama is a hardy and stout plant that infuses the kush flavors with the purple tones of grapes and tartness of berries. This West Coast Cali plant was bred in the inland desert regions of California, and it is very stable in dry or desert conditions. The FPCK does well in hydro or soil and delivers the best yield when topped and allowed to form several limbs. As they mature, about half of the plants form lengthy branches like its OG Kush father, while the other half stay fairly stout and compact. Both types have very even gr...

Strain Of The Day - Marley's Collie

Image
Indica 60 / Sativa 40 Origins: Jam2 x Ort 15T7 Flowering: 60-65 days Harvest: late October “Collie” was the standard slang-word for cannabis in Kingston, Jamaica, during Bob Marley’s youth. Impressed by meeting Rita Marley at a cannabis event, Sensi Seeds breeders crossed some great Jamaican collie with a Maple Leaf relative as a tribute to the Marley family. “Marley” is a big name to live up to in the ganja world, but this indica – sativa cross has so far earned a lot of community good-will, winning the Dutch High Life Cup – the overall High Life prize – in 1999. Marley’s Collie can be grown outdoors in climates within 40 degrees latitude of the equator, but it is usually raised indoors in Holland. She reaches 130-160 centimeters if vegetated for 3-4 weeks. Her huge central bud and light, tractable branching make her ideal for sea of green growing – or she can be encouraged to spread out in a greenhouse. Soil and hydro are equally good growing media. Sensi advises grow...

Strain Of The Day - Pot Of Gold

Image
Indica Origins: Skunk #1 x Hindu Kush Flowering: 56-70 days Harvest: mid October Pot of Gold is a stable Hybrid. The Hindu Kush mother is a long-maintained pure strain from the mountains of Afghanistan. The Skunk #1 father is a Mexican/Colombian/pure Afghani cross. Both parents of this plant come from California to Holland in 1985 with a legendary cannabis enthusiast and breeder. Pot of Gold matures into a medium to dark green plant with dense bud formations and only a few leaves that are between a sativa and indica shape. She will reach a medium height and form a thick canopy. Trimming the lower branches will concentrate the buds closer to the light, increasing total yield. With its strongly Afghan heritage, the buds and leaves are extremely resinous, crying out to be raw material for hashish. Flying Dutchmen advises gardeners to grow full organically on soil, the only method they use. Keep the air flowing and the humidity down. Like all densely-flowered heavy produce...

Strain Of The Day - White Widow

Image
Sativa 60 / Indica 40 Origins: Indian x Brazilian Flowering: 56-70 IN / 70-84 OUT Harvest: late October Since its introduction in 1995, White Widow has become an infamous breed in the world of weed. This variety can be found in almost every coffeeshop in Amsterdam, but while imitation may be the truest form of flattery, the genuine item bears the Greenhouse name. This variety’s reputation has been built on its excellence in smell, flavor, and quality of high. White Widow has fragrantly fresh pine cone nugs that have a taste bordering between fruit and flowers when smoked. Setting the standard for kind bud, White Widow washes over you with a warm feeling of mildly trippy sensations. White Widow hybrid marijuana strain is a compact plant of medium height. The buds only develop a few amber-colored hairs, but the outrageous crystalline resin production of this plant has become legendary. Inevitably the reputation that precedes it leads some growers to decide that it ...

Strain Of The Day - Kushadelic

Image
Indica 50 / Sativa 50 Origins: OG Kush x G-13 Haze Flowering: 70-80 days Kushadelic brings out the delicious psychedelic side of the Kush family. This strain is Soma’s cross of a California OG Kush and his special daddy haze. The haze father is a selection from Soma’s intensive work with hybrid hazes, a G-13 Haze / Neville’s Haze cross that has influenced many of his recent strains and beyond. Kushadelic is a 50/50 hybrid, blending the hazier qualities of the sativa with the indica voluptiousness and density of the Kush. This plant begins the vegetative phase with full, picture-perfect leaves that balance indica/sativa influences. As it progresses through flowering, the leaflets elongate to a more slender sativa appearance by finish. For most regions in the world, Kushadelic is an indoor variety, taking over 6 months from seed to finish outdoors, and a full 10 weeks in flowering under lights. Soma prefers organic soil methods with guano as fertilizer to bring out t...

Strain Of The Day - Exile

Image
Indica 70 / Sativa 30 Origins: White Widow x Northern Lights x Warlock Flowering: 60-67 days Harvest: late October Magus genetics likes to give its strains romantic names. in this case, the Exile is not a punishment, but more of an escape from circling thoughts and worries, a little mental vacation. The world “Exile” also sounds strong and isolated, which reflects this strain’s singularly deep, powerful indica stone. Exile is adaptable enough to grow well in any of the usual indoor setups. To a certain extent growers can control Exile’s branching to suit their cultivation style. Exile’s nodes develop at right angles to the stalk, proliferating medium branches on top of each other. This is true both of mature plants and cuttings, and especially likely in low to medium intensity light. Thus growers can alter Exile’s branching pattern by adjusting her light intensity. If a gardener wants columnar plants for a sea of green, the vegetative period should be shorter and the li...
