Strain of the Day "VIRUS"

Image
VIRUS Written by S.T.Oner, Cannabis Sativa vol.1 mostly Sativa Genetics: Atomic + x Unknown Sativa Flowering: 60-70 days THC: 15-18% Spain’s North of Seeds were one of the first medical marijuana seed banks to open in their area of Spain, and since they did so, they have gained a reputation both locally and abroad for good quality and customer service. The team takes particular care to ensure that their seeds reach you in the best possible condition, keeping their seeds at exactly 6 degrees Celcius (42.8 degrees Fahrenheit) and dating each package so you can be sure of its freshness. This attention to detail has made these guys a hit with medical users, and with a strain as good as Virus, these guys are going to get even more popular! Virus is a fantastic cross between the company’s Atomic +, an indica-dominant plant that looks and hits like a sativa, and a secret but potent sativa-dominant hybrid from the vaults of the breeders. This union has resulted in a beautiful looki...

Super Silver Haze

Image
Super Silver Haze Greenhouse Seed Co. Hybrid Origins: Skunk x NL x Haze Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: late October Originally bred by an obscure figure in the Holland marijuana scene, Super Silver haze has risen to become the Tiger Woods of the pot world. First place winner of three consecutive High Times Cannabis Cups for the hydro category (1997, 1998, 1999), Super Silver Haze also claimed first prize in the High Times Grand Cup in 1998. Super Silver Haze combines the stellar genetics of three plants – the Skunk, Northern Lights, and Haze varieties – to deliver and all-around good indoor grower. This variety can also be grown outside in the equatorial zone, approximately between 35 degrees latitude North and South. While she is best grown hydroponically, Super Silver Haze has not let her stardom go to her head. She will produce highly resinous and strongly pungent flowers in most indoor growing setups. The colas get pointed on top when mature, and are more open than compac...

Strain of the Day Exile

Image
Indica 70 / Sativa 30 Origins: White Widow x Northern Lights x Warlock Flowering: 60-67 days Harvest: late October Magus genetics likes to give its strains romantic names. in this case, the Exile is not a punishment, but more of an escape from circling thoughts and worries, a little mental vacation. The world “Exile” also sounds strong and isolated, which reflects this strain’s singularly deep, powerful indica stone. Exile is adaptable enough to grow well in any of the usual indoor setups. To a certain extent growers can control Exile’s branching to suit their cultivation style. Exile’s nodes develop at right angles to the stalk, proliferating medium branches on top of each other. This is true both of mature plants and cuttings, and especially likely in low to medium intensity light. Thus growers can alter Exile’s branching pattern by adjusting her light intensity. If a gardener wants columnar plants for a sea of green, the vegetative period should be shorter and the light shoul...

Strain of the Day - Vanilla Kush

Image
Indica Origins: Kashmir x Afghani Flowering: 60-65 days Vanilla Kush brings out creamy vanilla flavors in this pure indica Kush. The mother is a hash plant from Kashmir, a valley in the Himalayas of the northwestern Indian subcontinent. This region is a traditional hashmaking region, and the mother plant is a landrace variety of high quality coming from the cannabis motherlands. The cross is with a Hindu Kush father, a landrace strain of Afghanistan origin. When combined, these two heritage indica strains created a flavorful and highly potent kush. Landrace kush strains are consistent plants with a strong, steady growth pattern. Vanilla Kush likes to branch and typically forms eight symmetrical side branches. This strain delivers happier, more abundant yields when cultivated as multi-branch plants. The solid growth adapts well to hydro or soil systems, and thrives when a SCROG setup is used. When grown indoors, plants typically finish at a height of around 2 feet (60 cm) and ta...

Strain of the Day - Americano

Image
Indica Genetics: Skunk x Northern Lights Flowering: 42-50 days Harvest: late September Americano is a strain that was designed specifically for the American buyers who came to Vancouver looking to purchase marijuana in bulk. Enterprise Seeds crossed two very well known North American strains, Skunk and Northern Lights, to make this full indica variety. Some of Americano’s traits that make it such a great choice for commercial grows are the density of its buds and a short flowering period. While it canbe grown both indoors and out, Americano does best in indoor hydroponic gardens. When using aggressive nutrient formulas, growers can harvest this plant after as little as 6 weeks of flowering. When smoking Americano, excpet a full indica stone that will make you feel heavy and may result in some couch lock. Flushing at the end of the flowering cycle will bring out a little more flavor, but generally, Americano has a somewhat subtle Skunk smell and taste. -kindgreenbuds Faceb...

Strain of the Day - AMS

Image
60% Sativa / 40% Indica Genetics: Swiss Indica x Swiss Sativa Flowering: 8-9 weeks Harvest: mid October Yield: 700 gr/m2 If you’ve ever had the pleasure of traveling to Amsterdam, then you may already recognize AMS as the airport code for the Amsterdam airport, since it also appears in bold letters on the tag attached to your luggage. True to its name, the AMS variety is, in a manner of speaking, your ticket to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is an international city, and its Dutch namesake variety has done a little country hopping itself. The AMS mom is a Swiss indica strain named Fragolina, the Italian name for strawberries. The dad, also of Swiss origin with an Italian name, is a sativa strain called Gran Flora, meaning “great plants”. When brought together in Amsterdam is AMS, the cross leans toward indica, with the trademark body high from the indica side of the cannabis family, balanced by a blissful sativa cerebral effect. AMS is a multi-branch plant originally developed with ou...

Strain of the Day - Headband

Image
Indica 70 / Sativa 30 Origins: Sour Diesel x OG Kush Flowering: 63-70 days Imagine, if you will, throwing caution and all fashion sense to the wind, and donning a headband a la John McEnroe in the early ’80s or Luke Wilson in the Royal Tennenbaums – or for the ladies, Olivia Newton-John aerobics video style. The Headband is like a reassuring little brain hug, and its presence may bring a heightened awareness of the gray matter. Imagine a weed strain that, when smoked, mimics that feeling, moving rapidly from the front of the mind to the back, easing anxiety while inducing awareness. Now you have the idea. The Headband is a brilliant case of reverse engineering by DNA Genetics. A choice, unidentified strain nicknamed the 707 Headband was making the circuit and gaining attention for its combination of potency and dank flavor. DNA breeders made some educated guesses about the parents of the 707 Headband, and then worked on recreating a strain from scratch that mimicked the 707’s s...

Strain of the Day - Brain's Escape

Image
Indica Origins: Edelweiss x Brazil’s Best x KC 606 Flowering: 63-77 days Harvest: late September Through the 1900s, Switzerland seemed to be on the verge of a progressive marijuana policy, indeed of becoming the next pot spot. KC Brains was among several growers who bred Swiss seeds in anticipation of a more liberal legal climate. Edelweiss is a distinctive Swiss strain that emerged in this period, based on a Swiss indica with a strong local reputation. Unfortunately, the Swiss government retreated from looser cannabis laws and began to crack down on pot culture, especially if it was “imported”. Many growers who had tested Switzerland’s evolving pot policies were charged as criminals or shown to the border. KC Brains brought Edelweiss with him back to Holland, where he combined it with KC 606 and a Brazilian strain seasoned with sativa from South Ecuador. The result is a fresh lemon weed whose buzz feels more “high” than “stoned”. The Brains Escape pattern of growth is decidedly...

Strain of the Day - Huron

Image
Indica 75 / Sativa 25 Origins: Niagara x White Widow Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: late September This cross of Dr. Greenthumb’s flagship breed, Niagara, and the famed White Widow was developed with the outdoor grower in mind. Called Huron to honor its Canadian home, this strain was selected based on potency and an early finishing time. Huron is a great outdoor plant for temperate latitudes, including most of Canada, Europe and the northern U.S. The best outdoor environment is in deep fertile soil, where it finishes by late September. Huron has survived the ultimate frost resistance test:unexpected snowfall although handling frost is stronger in spring than autumn. A good plant for the beginning grower, Huron can also be grown indoors when an outdoor garden is not possible. This plant will adapt well to most indoor methods and finish between 18-24 inches. Dr. Greenthumb recommends pruning radially, then grouping out four branches for a multi-staked plant. A three-quarter ...

Strain of the Day - Sleestack

Image
Sativa 70 / Indica 30 Origins: Shrom x Martian Mean Green Flowering: 60-63 days The Sleestack are aliens from the Lost City in the 1970s children’s television show, Land of the Lost, which was such a cult classic, that it was remade in the 1990s. The Sleestack strain may not be menacing, but she definitely contains some alien DNA. The mother is Shrom, a cross of Colombian landrace strain called Santa Marta Gold and a Romulan indica. DNA got Shrom as a cutting from Northern California years ago. The Shrom has a satisfying yield and also a fuel haze taste that many cannabis users appreciate. Shrom is also a star when it comes to hash or concentrates, creating some clearheaded and flavorful concoctions. Sleestack’s father is the Martian Mean Green, a cross of Sharckbreath and G-13 Haze with an indica growth profile and deep haze aromas. Martian Mean Green crosses well as a male and imparts some of those special haze qualities without the lanky haze structure. Sleestack is bushy wi...

Strain of the Day - Jilly Bean

Image
Indica 40 / Sativa 60 Origins: Orange Velvet Skunk x Space Queen Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: early September Jilly Bean is the first marijuana strain bred by Green Avengers member MzJill. Her friend Charmed, another female grower, suggested the name. Like jelly beans, Jilly “Beans” are seeds that promise a sweet, fruit-flavored, happy-making treat. Jilly Bean is easy to grown both indoors and out. When grown outside, this strain does best in dry, warm climates, where frost or rains don’t occur until after mid-September. One fan of Jilly Bean has grown very successfully in Israel, using outdoor soil alone and no nutrients. Indoors, Jilly Bean adapts to either soil or hydro, and can be grown as a single-cola plant in SOG. She yields best as a large bush, topped several times, giving many large dense colas. Jilly Bean has a light to average nutrient requirement. This strain is adaptable to higher grow room temperatures, but for maximum yields, the temperature should stay bel...

Strain of the Day - Orange Sherbert

Image
Sativa 80 / Indica 20 Origins: Skunks Flowering: 55-65 days Harvest: late October Orange bud expresses the sativa-leaning qualities from its family of vigorous growing skunk ancestors. A fast, cooperative plant, this variety grows well indoors or out, in any system or medium. It is suitable as a multi-branch plant but yields best in a sea of green. The minimal foliage makes pruning optional. outdoors, Orange Bud flourishes in Southern Europe and other similar climates. When autumn’s chill approaches, her outdoor leaves turn purple, setting off the orange pistils that cover her buds – a beautiful plant. After 30 days of vegetative growth, Orange Bud will be about 2 feet (60 centimeters) tall. Every additional week of growth will give approximately 7 inches (20 centimeters) of extra height, reaching a meter (3 feet) around harvest time indoors, or 2 meters (6 feet) outdoors. Orange Bud’s leaves are classic seven-pointers. Her branches are long, and can be weighed down by the gra...

Black Business Spotlight - 'Think Big' by CJ Wallace

Image
Biggie's Son Starts Cannabis Company Inspired by his father, Christopher Wallace aka Notorious B.I.G., CJ Wallace created 'Think BIG' company as a movement to encourage the nation to re-think cannabis. Wallace’s company creates curated cannabis products rooted in creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. “Many people don’t know my dad was arrested for a cannabis conviction before he died,” said Wallace. “So had he lived, he would have been dealing with the criminal justice system like so many other black men.” Paradoxically, there is a boom in the cannabis industry while many sit behind bars serving time for marijuana drug offenses. Think BIG’s mission is to provide a new voice for cannabis. The company is partnering with organizations and researchers to spread its ethos and vision—inspiring the world to unlock cannabis’ use for good. To pay homage to Biggie, the company launched a strain of cannabis cultivated to stimulate creativity and ease anxiety. ...

Strain of the Day - Power Plant

Image
Sativa 80 / Indica 20 Origins: South African strains Flowering: 56-63 days Harvest: late October Power Plant derives from dagga, the sativa-dominant pot grown in South Africa and its neighboring countries. South African varieties are famous for their fast growth and early finish, in contrast to the slow growing season required by most tropical sativas. Power Plant develops almost visibly, finishing before halloween outdoors in the Netherlands and even sooner in the semi-arid, Mediterranean climates like Spain. This is a plant for growers who want strong sativa, ASAP. Flexible and adaptive, Power Plant grows well indoors, whether in soil or hydro, multi-branched or in a sea of green. If pruned, she develops multiple compact buds that measure around 15 centimeters (6 inches) long. if she isn’t pruned, she grows three or four big 20-centimeter (8 inch) buds and lots of smaller popcorn. Power Plant’s foliage stays olive green with thin, seven-point leaves. Her strong, pungent smel...

Strain of the Day - Dr. Grinspoon

Image
Sativa Origins: sativa x sativa Flowering: 100 days This unusual pure sativa strain has been named in honor of physician, Harvard professor, author, and cannabis advocate Dr. Lester Grinspoon. By Dr. Grinspoon’s own account, he first researched cannabis in order to document its harmfulness. Instead, as he reviewed the literature, he found little support for the demonization of marijuana, and much more support for its benign, positive influences. As a good scientist, Dr. Grinspoon adjusted his opinion based on the evidence. In 1971, he wrote a seminal book, Marihuana Reconsidered, which argued for the legalization of marijuana. Since that time, Grinspoon has been a steadfast and outspoken advocate, using his voice to help reform marijuana policies in the US and around the world. The aptly named Dr. Grinspoon variety is a “thinking man’s” sativa of the highest order. This top-shelf connoisseur breed is a good addition to personal gardens seeking premium headstash. The plant has a...

Strain of the Day - Blue Velvet

Image
Indica 50 / Sativa 50 Origins: Purple Thai x Afghan Indica Flowering: 45-55 days Harvest: late September Blue Velvet is a “leggy” half sativa – half indica cross, named for her lush appearance. Due to the lineage, this variety has also been known as Blueberry Thai. The Long branches sport lavender-red leaves and the buds have a trademark “fox tail” appearance. The calyxes are large and striped. Very enjoyable to the nose and palate, Blue Velvet’s fragrance and flavor border between fruity and floral. Expect an uplifting and euphoric experience with this variety. The buzz gives both a head and body sensation, making it good for daytime use, socializing with friends, or for creative solitary ventures. Because of its height and minimal foliage, Blue Velvet is recommended for a sea of green method. This variety will also grow lovely tall plants outdoors, reaching as high as 9 feet when supported and not cropped. Outdoor plants can produce up to 300 grams of dried bud when the gr...

Strain of the Day - Devil

Image
Indica Origins: Afghan x Afghan / Skunk Flowering: 56-70 days Harvest: late October Breeder Shantibaba likes to play with the names he gives various breeds by rehabilitating words with negative connotations and applying them to something good. As he says, “Face it, devils are not so bad at certain times!” This Devil’s Afghani pedigree has given it a reddish aura that deepens as it matures. The leaves turn purple to red, like the color of autumn, and are typically thick and fan-like in shape. The bud is a cluster of flowers and goes from dark green to purple to red as it finishes. Unlike many Afghanis, this hybrid is only a moderate resin producer. The buzz will take you on a magical mind journey that can be wonderfully therapeutic and uplifting. This Devil is a good companion for exciting and adventurous undertakings. The bouquet is sweet like an apple orchard, while the taste also includes the parental skunk influence. An easy-to-grow plant, Devil is recommended for the n...

Strain of the Day - Angelmatic

Image
S40 / I30 / R30 Origins: Sativa dominant Ruderalis x Indica dominant Ruderalis Flowering: 42-45 days There has been a quest in recent years to tease out the autoflowering characteristic from the Russian-born ruderalis variant of cannabis. Autoflowering liberates growers from a strict light schedule; however, ruderalis has a reputation for otherwise mediocre qualities. The artful breeder must coax out the autoflowering trait while maintaining the connosseur elements from the sativa and indica strains. Ministry of Cannabis began their quest for a high quality autoflowering plant with the Little Angel variety. They have continued this program with the Angelmatic strain, and evolution of Little Angel. Angelmatic improves on the stability and size of its ruderalis-cross predecessor, with a slightly larger size and better harvest. Ruderalis has been crossed into both sides of Angelmatic’s family tree. The mother is a sativa-indica-ruderalis hybrid with sativa dominance from regions i...
