Middle School Refuses to Punish Racist Students for Bullying Black Girl

Image
Missouri Mom Outraged After 14-Year-Old Daughter Singled Out As Subject Of Racist Meme    A Missouri mother is beside herself after her 14 year-old daughter was the target of a racist meme, sent to her and other students at the lunch table.    The meme in question shows a white man hosing a young Black child with water, with a caption that reads, “Go be a ni**er somewhere else."  The offensive picture was reportedly airdropped to two students at Hixson Middle School in Webster Groves.   Yolanda Morris wants disciplinary action after her daughter showed the meme to her. Morris was reduced to tears.   “I immediately started crying and started emailing,” Morris said. “I’ve been crying on and off all day, all night. Every time I see the picture, I just immediately start crying because I can’t believe someone would think that was okay to send to my daughter.”    Morris, along with Jada’s father attended a closed-door meeting with Princ...

Book of the Day "Hood Feminism"

Image
Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women that a Movement Forgot    Today's feminist movement has a glaring blind spot, and paradoxically, it is women. Mainstream feminists rarely talk about meeting basic needs as a feminist issue, argues Mikki Kendall, but food insecurity, access to quality education, safe neighborhoods, a living wage, and medical care are all feminist issues.    All too often, however, the focus is not on basic survival for the many, but on increasing privilege for the few. That feminists refuse to prioritize these issues has only exacerbated the age-old problem of both internecine discord and women who rebuff at carrying the title.    Moreover, prominent white feminists broadly suffer from their own myopia with regard to how things like race, class, sexual orientation, and ability intersect with gender.    How can we stand in solidarity as a movement, Kendall asks, when there is the distinct likelihood that some women are oppre...

Book of the Day "Who Wrote the Bible?"

Image
Who Wrote the Bible?    For thousands of years, the prophet Moses was regarded as the sole author of the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch. According to tradition, Moses was divinely directed to write down foundational events in the history of the world: the creation of humans, the worldwide flood, the laws as they were handed down at Mt. Sinai, and the cycle of Israel’s enslavement and liberation from Egypt.    However, these stories—and their frequent discrepancies—provoke questions: why does the first chapter in Genesis say that man and woman were made in God’s image, while the second says that woman was made from man’s rib? Why does one account of the flood say it lasted forty days, while another records no less than one hundred? And why do some stories reflect the history of southern Judah, while others seem sourced from northern Israel?    Originally published in 1987, Richard Friedman’s Who Wrote the Bible? joins a ho...

Book of the Day "The Bible Unearthed"

Image
The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts    In this groundbreaking work that sets apart fact and legend, authors Finkelstein and Silberman use significant archaeological discoveries to provide historical information about biblical Israel and its neighbors.    In this iconoclastic and provocative work, leading scholars Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman draw on recent archaeological research to present a dramatically revised portrait of ancient Israel and its neighbors. They argue that crucial evidence (or a telling lack of evidence) at digs in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon suggests that many of the most famous stories in the Bible—the wanderings of the patriarchs, the Exodus from Egypt, Joshua’s conquest of Canaan, and David and Solomon’s vast empire—reflect the world of the later authors rather than actual historical facts.    Challenging the fundamentalist readings of the script...

Pastor Steals Money From Needy Kids Program and Buys Bentley

Image
The church is the biggest scam of all time,  and it's still working!!! Especially in the black community. It's like black people can't wait to give their money to the church on Sunday, despite my best efforts to expose the con that religion is. Any pastor that has studied the christian religion must therefore know that it is not based on fact, which makes them ALL fraudsters! Don't take my word for it, look at the way these pastors behave!    One Chicago pastor is being accused of stealing close to $1,000,000 from his church’s food program designated for needy children. He used the money for his lavish gifts instead, one of which being a brand new Bentley.  The Chicago Tribune has reported that one of those gifts was a $142,000 Bentley luxury sedan.    According to federal prosecutors on the case, Rev. Clarence Smith Jr., of New Life Impact Church for many years, was indicted on fraud charges for taking more than $900,000 from the federally...

Book of the Day "Why I Became an Atheist"

Image
For about two decades, John W. Loftus was a devout evangelical Christian, an ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and an ardent apologist for Christianity. With three degrees - in philosophy, theology, and philosophy of religion - he was adept at using rational argumentation to defend the faith.   But over the years, doubts about the credibility of key Christian tenets began to creep into his thinking. By the late 1990s, he experienced a full-blown crisis of faith.     In this honest appraisal of his journey from believer to atheist, the author carefully explains the experiences and the reasoning process that led him to reject religious belief. The original edition of this book was published in 2006 and reissued in 2008.    Since that time, Loftus has received a good deal of critical feedback from Christians and skeptics alike. In this revised and expanded edition, the author addresses criticisms of the original, adds new argumentation and ...

Book of the Day "The Black Atheist in America"

Image
The Black Atheist in America    African Americans, Blacks, have long been associated with religious faith.Since the dawn of our time in America from 1619 to the present day. Do we see this.    The Black Church has long been, and is still, seen as a bastion of hope in the Black Community. And for good reason: many of our Civil Rights champions came from the church. This fact, while brilliant and admirable, does not dismiss the evils associated with the church.    Some of these evils include Jonestown, Waco, and 911. The appalling actions done "in the name of god" are highly capable of ruining lives on an epidemic scale.    Not only can lives be lost but, lifestyles can be ruined as well. Entire fortunes have been squandered as well as childhood innocence all in the name of god.    What is being done about this? Much of the ill-begotten deeds of religions squalid past are conveniently swept under the rug. From the pope to the...

Yet Another Woman Drives into Oncoming Car to "Test Her Faith"

Image
The woman didn't care about victims because "God would have taken care of them."    Adults who believe in god are just like children with imaginary friends. Except when you're an adult, you can make decisions that affect others, which is why belief in imaginary friends is dangerous for an adult.    31-year-old Nadejda Reilly in her delusional, religious mind state assumed God would protect her as she drove into oncoming traffic. She also didn’t give a damn about hurting or killing anyone else.    So what happened??? She crashed, duh! Two innocent people were injured. Even after the incident, Reilly didn’t understand the ramifications of her delusions... “Reilly related God took care of her by not having her injured, ” wrote Trooper Bruce Balliet in an arrest affidavit. “ Reilly expressed no concerns or remorse for the victims. Reilly also stated she did not care if the other people were injured because God would have taken care of them. ”   ...

Book of the Day "Deception Point"

Image
Today's book of the day comes from one of my favorite novelists, Dan Brown. This book , like all of Dan Brown's books, is based on a true story.   There's even an disclosure in the beginning which states that every piece of technology mentioned in the book is 100% real and being used the government today!   Reading this book felt like watching a movie and  finished the entire novel in just a few hours because I just did not want to stop reading it!   This thriller is an audio book but is also exciting to read. Here's the plot teaser...    When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election.    To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton.    Accompanied by a team...

Book of the Day "The Ebony Exodus Project: Why Some Black Women Are Walking out on Religion and Others Should Too"

Image
The Ebony Exodus Project: Why Some Black Women Are Walking out on Religion and Others Should Too    Black women are the single most religious demographic in the United States, yet they are among the poorest, least educated, and least healthy groups in the nation.    Drawing on the author's own past experience as an evangelical minister and her present work as a secular counselor and researcher, The Ebony Exodus Project makes a direct connection between the church and the plight of black women.   Through interviews with African American women who have left the church, the author reveals the shame and suffering often caused by the church - and the resulting happiness, freedom, and sense of purpose these women have felt upon walking away from it.    This audiobook calls on other black women to honestly reflect on their relationship with religion and challenges them to consider that perhaps the answers to their problems rest not inside a church, but ...

Book of the Day "Emancipation of a Black Atheist"

Image
Great journeys often start with a single question. For D. K. Evans, a professional in the Christian-dominated South, that question was, " Why Do I Believe in God??? "    That simple query led him on a years-long search to better understand the nature of religion and faith, particularly as it applies to the Black community.    While many taking such a journey today might immerse themselves in the writing of Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens, Evans took inspiration not only from John Henrik Clarke, Yosef-Ben Jochannan, Hubert Harrison, and John G. Jackson, champions of a rich Black tradition of challenging religious orthodoxy, but also from many others in his own community who had similarly come to question their core religious beliefs.    While this journey eventually led him to discount the notion of God, he calls on all to ask their own questions, particularly those within the Black community who act on b...
